Abstrakt v dalším jazyce: | Great Britain has had from the beginning of the European integration distant and skeptic attitude against supranational cooperation. There were several reasons: lack of interest in political and economic field, geopolitical experience and fear of the lost their identity and sovereignty. British identity comes from history of Great Britain as an imperial power and the winner of two world wars. Great history and island isolation caused a feeling of separation and distinction from continental Europe.Great Britain was after World War II orientated on the special relationship with USA, Commonwealth countries and at the last Europe. Ambition of Great Britain was to become a third superpower in international relations and that is why she refused the opportunity to be member state of the European Steel and Coal Community. The main actors of the debate about role of the Great Britain in the process of European integration were Labour Party and Conservative Party. Impulse for the first application to the European Economic Community in 1961 came from the Conservative party and their motives were all economic. The First application succeeded long negotiations which were unsuccessful. Second application in 1967 during labour government was unsuccessful too. British applications faced up French attitude which were reluctant to accept Great Britain to EEC. Charles de Gaulle was especially afraid of the British dominance in the EEC.Great Britain has entered in EEC in 1973 after twenty years of establishing EEC. It was after change at French political scene. Successor of Charles de Gaulle Georges Pompidou was not reluctant to British application because he was afraid of powerful Germany and he wanted Great Britain in EEC to the balancing of particular powers. |
