Abstract in different language: We present a new approach to define reliable boolean operations on polyhedral solids. Firstly, it is based on the refinement of embedded combinatorial 3-maps. Secondly, it uses algebraic specifications and rewriting techniques that leads to a proper formal definition. This approach permits us, in a first time, to concentrate ourselves on the logic of the problem, and then, to consider many control strategies and an efficient implementation.
