Abstract in different language: The article focuses on the determining the companies´ HR priorities in knowledge-based society. It presents the results of the survey conducted in 2011 in Slovak small and medium size enterprises in the Košice Region. The partial aim of the survey has been to find out key competencies of managers, which are important in new economic conditions. The survey has been carried out within the project Identification of key competencies of university students for the needs of development of knowledge society in Slovakia, which is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of Slovak Republic within the framework of incentives for research and development from the state budget in accordance with Act No. 185/2009 Z. z. on incentives for research and development and on supplementing Act. 595/2003 Z. z. Income Tax, as amended, as amended by Act no. 40/2011 Z. z.
