Abstract in different language: The article deals with the intra-family succession in family businesses. The aim of this article is to focus on this urgent issue of the Czech family businesses and to describe specifics of family firm succession and to identify which are the key factors for successful succession. The impact of family businesses on national economies is often overlooked despite the fact that they create the vast majority of businesses in the most countries of the world and thus they have, besides others, a significant share of GDP or employment. In the theoretical part of this article the differences between family and nonfamily businesses, succession process and selected factors of family business success are discussed. In the research part four cases of the Czech family businesses are presented and distinctive features of succession process are highlighted. We found that for successful succession is crucial that the successors possess specific knowledge of the field and are gradually socialized within the family business in order to develop necessary skill set. Equally important is the strong emotional ties and the shared family values.
