dc.description.abstract-translatedThe aim of this paper is to present the findings from our research on dumpster diving. We are interested in the ways that gender influences the behaviour of people who participate in dumpster diving, and how the gender differences of participants affect their perception of dumpster diving. Our research was conducted in the Pilsen Region on people who are engaged in dumpster diving or were engaged in this activity in the past. Our research shows important differences between the standpoint regarding dumpster diving of men and women, not only during the phase of getting the groceries out of the dumpster, but also during the process of preparing meals. It has been re- vealed that fundamental factors regarding this standpoint are the different perceptions of cleanliness and dirt. Research considering gender role division highlights that men are usually less engaged in those household tasks that are considered feminine, therefore most of the housework is done by women. The dominant feature of this sphere is activities connected to food, such as grocery shopping and cooking. Does the gender division of tasks manifest in the similar manner during dumpster diving?en
