Abstract in different language: Border town Cheb, which in the past have transformed completely its identity from German to Czech meets today national and civicminded disputes considering the social life. Irrespective the changes, which has been occurring in CzechGerman relations from 1898, some inhabitants of Cheb still stands a defensive or even hostile stance against the Germans. The main question of this study is: What the social signifi cance of this particular type of confl ict is and what lies in its core.
