dc.description.abstract-translatedGoals: The aim is to create a didactic aid for a tree identification set-a wood sample book, that would be used during teaching as well as to test the knowledge. Description: The wood sample book and the wood samples were made from cut-offs which were obtained from a carpentry shop and from a sawmill.The cognitive set of woody plants contains woody plants commonly found in the Czech Republic.There are 28 boxes in total.25 numbered boxes –individual wood species,1 box –cards with full tree images/ detailed images of trees,1 box –cards with descriptions of individual wood species,1 box –dices.The transverse and longitudinal cut through the trunk as well as the tree bark are visible on each of the 25 wood samples.The samples of the different wood species are numbered from one side to make it easier to assign them to the cards with the tree images and to the particular cards with the descriptions of individual wood species.From the other side of the wood sample there are no numbers, so that it can be used to practice identifying the different wood species.There are four dice placed in the wood sample book for random selection of the wood species. The student throws one or more dice and counts the number of points on each dice. By this means the student gets a number by which he/she chooses the corresponding wood sample, determines the species or assigns the cards with the images and the descriptions of wood to it.Conclusion: The wood sample book is a faithful representation of reality tied to the content of teaching. It is an appropriate means of interaction and communication between the teacher and the students.en
