| Abstract: | Tato bakalářská práce představuje život významného mořeplavce, korzára, bojovníka za Anglii a královnu Alžbětu I., sira Francise Drakea, jehož plavby sehrály výraznou úlohu v prosazování zájmů protestantské Anglie proti katolickému Španělsku. Na své nejvýznamnější plavbě se Drake jako pirát dostal do vod Tichého oceánu a přivezl do Anglie nezměrné bohatství. Za tento čin byl povýšen Alžbětou I. do šlechtického stavu. V jejích službách se velkou měrou zasloužil o porážku tzv. ?neporazitelné španělské armady? a tak napomohl oslabit moc katolického Španělska v Evropě. |
| Abstract in different language: | This bachelor thesis describes the life of a significant navigator, corsair, fighter for England and queen Elizabeth I., Sir Francis Drake, whose action played an important role in promoting the interest of protestant England against catholic Spain. On his most important voyage, Drake, as a pirate, got to the Pacific ocean waters and brought back immeasurable wealth. For this act he was promoted to the nobility by Elizabeth I. in her Majesty´s service, Drake largely contributed to the defeat of the so called ?invincible Spanish Armada?, and so helped to weaken the power of the catholics in Europe. |
