Abstract in different language: We present in this paper a method for rendering three dimentionnal scalar fields. We make an accurate bijection between scalar fields and a participating media haze in order to get an intuitive interpretation of the field. We propose a physic based illumination model, with no restrictive assumptions about the characteristics of the medium arbitrary phase functions and about the physical phenomena included in the rendering process (multiple scattering). The algorithm allows to vary continually from surfacic to volumic visualization and to visualize only a part of the field. Examples on a 3D image of a sampled magnetic field illustrate the different possibilities of the method.
