Abstract: The submitted article concern the burial rite and funerary equipment from the 16th to 19th century. For this purpose, is used primarily research from the burial ground at the church st. Nicolas in České Budějovice. For this reason concentrates on town environment. The main aim is to describe the burial rite and funerary equipment of the dead in Bohemia, on the basis of archaeological, historical, ethnographic and anthropological sources. Great attention is paid to devotional articles which represented objects, which accompanied the dead in this life and hereafter. Devotional objects are found at the burial grounds in Czech Republic and Europe. The article is output of my thesis and also outlines the scope of my disertation work.
