| Abstract: | Cílem bakalářské práce je nastínit úlohu Winstona Churchilla v bitvě o Británii, zmapovat důležitá rozhodnutí a okamžiky, které vedly k tomu, že se Velká Británie dokázala ubránit nacistické agresi a stala se jednou z vítězných mocností. Churchill se stal ministerským předsedou v květnu 1940, tedy v období, kdy bylo nutné od politiky appeasementu vůči Německu přejít k obraně Británie a dohodám se spojenci. Právě v této době se velmi uplatnily jeho schopnosti výborného řečníka a obratného politika, který byl zemi schopen vést i v těch nejtěžších chvílích, kdy mu byla velkou oporou jeho manželka Clementine. Snažil se o zachování svobody a demokracie - hodnot velmi cenných nejen pro západní Evropu. Churchill se ukázal, nejen během uzavíraní dohod, ale i svými vojenskými rozhodnutími, jako schopný politik a státník, který byl jednou z klíčových osobností, jež rozhodovaly nejen o osudu Velké Británie, ale i o osudu celé Evropy v době II. světové války. |
| Abstract in different language: | The aim of the thesis is to outline the role of Winston Churchill during the Battle of Britain and to map out important decisions and moments that led to the fact that Great Britain was able to resist Nazi aggression and become one of the victorious powers. Churchill became Prime Minister in May 1940, a period when it was necessary to move from a policy of appeasement toward Germany to the defence of Britain and agreements with the Allies. It was at this time that he greatly exercised his abilities as an excellent orator and a skilful politician who was able to lead the country even in the most difficult times, when his wife Clementine was a great support to him. He tried to preserve freedom and democracy - values that are very valuable not only to Western Europe. Churchill had shown himself to be an able politician and statesman, who was one of the key figures to decide the fate of not only the UK, but that of the entirety of Europe during the Second World War. He had shown himself as such not only during the conclusion of agreements, but also with his military decisions. |
