Abstract: Moje diplomová práce završující studium na Fakultě designu a umění Ladislava Sutnara je autorská didaktická kniha s názvem They, them - příběhy lidí na spektru všech pohlaví. Kniha obsahuje šest kapitol a prezentuje více než dvacet konkrétních příběhů transgender a nebinárních osob.
Abstract in different language: I am finishing my studies at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art with an artist's non-fiction picture book called They, them - Stories from All over the Gender Spectrum. I have decided to choose such a topic since as a queer person I am naturally interested in the issues concerning LGBTQ+ community, and since I already was doing research on transgender and nonbinary people for myself. I created the art style through experimenting and then I started writing the text. Throughout my studies I relied mostly on digital painting and editing, so for my diploma work I decided to stand up to a challenge and paint with gouache. But eventually, thanks to discovering more about the gender spectrums, I combined digital and classic painting to come up with new and unique illustrations. The book contains six chapters presenting different stories of more than twenty transgender and nonbinary people through the Late Stone Age till today. The key moments of the publication are closeup portraits staring directly into the readers eyes and double-spread illustrations of specific environments. The book is based on a topic of our times and is prepared to be shown all over the world, not just to the Czech public. There is a possibility to extend already existing chapters and even to add new ones. I tried to retell the experiences of transgender and nonbinary individuals in the form of short stories to make the beauty of living on the spectrum between the so-called two genders understandable to as many people as possible.
