Abstract in different language: | The aim of this thesis is to describe the formation of modern nations in Europe, their tendency to self-determination and self-realization in their own state. In the first part of the thesis the emphasis is mainly on the modernisation theory of the nations and nationalism (here, the author relies mainly on the work of one of the leading representatives of this theory Ernest Gellner). The first part also describes the conditions necessary for the emergence of national movements as bearers of the national idea. The second part of the thesis deals with a specific example of the use of the right to self-determination, which is the formation of the independent Czechoslovak state. Here, the author describes the course of the struggle of the nascent Czechoslovak state for their own self-determination during the First World War and just after it, including its participation in the Paris Peace Conference, where the concept of the right of nations to self-determination was first used as a legitimate political principle. |
