| Abstract: | Cílem této práce je prozkoumat potenciál metafory a obrazných vyjádření zastávat pozici kritéria hodnocení teorií významu. Pokouším se ukázat, že kvalitativní a kvantitativní rysy metafory a obrazných vyjádření obecně k této hypotéze opravňují. Četnost obrazných vyjádření v jazyce je značná a to samo hovoří pro možnost užívání těchto vyjádření jako kritéria hodnocení teorií významu. Navíc metafory a obrazná vyjádření nesou zvláštní sílu, kterou jsem nazval intenzita a která vysvětluje silný vliv těchto vyjádření na mysl, emoce, představivost a rozumění. Lze předpokládat, že v intenzitě a obraznosti těchto vyjádření se nějakým způsobem ukazuje sama podstata jazyka a komunikace vůbec. Takováto kvalita je tak druhým argumentem pro metaforu v roli kritéria hodnocení teorií významu. Nakonec je zde také oprávněná pochybnost o potřebě rozlišování obrazného a doslovného významu. Tato pochybnost je patrná zvláště při snaze objasnit sám problematický a nejasný pojem "metafora". Protože nenacházím tuto distinkci dostatečně opodstatněnou, považuji možnost identity mechanismů významu u obrazných a doslovných vyjádření za třetí argument pro to, aby metafora, byla chápána jako prubířský kámen teorií významu, tj. byla nástrojem k hodnocení těchto teorií, k jejich falsifikování, modifikování či přímo k jejich vytváření. |
| Abstract in different language: | The main aim of this thesis is to present the potential of metaphors and figurative language in general to maintain a position of a criterion of evaluation of theories of meaning. I am trying to show that qualitative and quantitative features of metaphors and figurative expressions justify this hypothesis. Frequency of figurative expressions in language is enormous and this alone speaks for using them for a criterion of evaluation of theories of meaning. In addition, metaphors and figurative expressions in general carry some special force I have named intensity, which explains special impact these expresions have on mind, emotions, imagination and understanding. That is the reason why we can assume that these expressions are somehow connected with essence of language and communication itself. Such a quality is the second argument for why metaphors should be entitled to occupy a position of evaluating criterion. There is also a reasonable doubt for distinguishing figurative meaning and literal meaning, which is very apparent when one is trying to clarify problematic and enigmatic term of metaphor itself. While finding that this distiction is not as proven and justified as it should be or was thought to be, this is considered to be the third argument for metaphors being a touchstone of theories of meaning - the tool for their evaluating, refuting, modifying and for creating new ones. |
