| Abstract: | Téma mé práce je Britská společnost ve 30. letech 20. století. Práce je analýzou vybraného období. Hlavním cílem práce je popsat charakteristické znaky britské společnosti posledních deset let před druhou světovou válkou a pokusit se popsat jak negativní, tak pozitivní společenské jevy a procesy. S ohledem na povahu mé práce jsem využila primární zdroje - knihu The Road to Wigan Pier (poprvé vydanou v roce 1937) od George Orwella and knihu English Journey (poprvé vydanou v roce 1934) od J. B. Priestleye. Práce je rozdělena na pět částí - úvod, tři kapitoly a závěr. První kapitola nabízí přehled hlavních historických a politických událostí doby. Následující kapitola, která je hlavní částí mé práce, popisuje charakteristické fenomény 30. let, které jsou spojeny s jednotlivými britskými společenskými třídami - pracující, střední a vyšší třídou. Třetí kapitola je zaměřena na případ extremistického chování v Británii 30. let a na působení nejúspěšnějšího fašistického hnutí v zemi, Britskou unii fašistů. Období 30. let je obecně považováno za dobu strádání, chudoby a nezaměstnanosti, především spojenou s Hospodářskou krizí. Nicméně můžeme najít v britské společnosti i takové události a fenomény, které mohou být považovány za pozitivní. |
| Abstract in different language: | The theme of my bachelor thesis is The British Society in the 1930s. The thesis contains an analysis of the chosen time period. The key objective of this thesis is to describe characteristic features of the British society in last ten years before World War Two and to attempt to identify not only the negative social aspects and processes but also positive ones. Regarding the nature of my thesis, I used the primary sources - the books The Road to Wigan Pier (first printed in 1937) by George Orwell and English Journey (first printed in 1934) by J. B. Priestley. The thesis is divided into five parts - the Introduction, three chapters and the Conclusion. The first chapter provides an outline of the main historical and political events of the period. The following chapter is the main part of my thesis and describes characteristic phenomena of the 1930s which were connected with each of British classes - working class, middle class and upper class. The third chapter is focused on the case of extremist behaviour in Britain in the 1930s and on the activity of the most successful British fascist movement - the British Union of Fascists. The period of the 1930s is generally considered as the period of misery, poverty and unemployment, mainly connected with the Great Depression. Nevertheless, there were also such events and phenomena in the British society which can be regarded as positive. |
